The Pats had flown over the NFL during the regular season last year. With Tom Brady at the top of his game, the men of Bill Belichick seemed en route to a fourth title in nine years. With two titles and three appearances in the Super Bowl over the last six seasons, leading Pittsburgh through a period in its history. But beware, the two previous trips to the Super Bowl Steelers were followed by a disappointing season without qualifying for the playoffs. Third time? The talent is there. The experience also. Ben Roethlisberger looks better than ever and the attack found a nice balance racing game with Big Ben and Mendenhall. The defense remains one of the fiercest of the League, with the best group of linebackers in the country. Two big questions: the offensive line and secondary, despite the presence of Troy Polamalu. The stability of the workforce (no change in the holders) is an asset since the lockout shortened the team preparation.

The Ravens are still faithful to the position. They separated a few veterans, such as tighd end Todd Heap, but the team of John Harbaugh has kept its main virtues, starting with his defense of iron. As N'Gata, Suggs, Lewis and Reed will be established, any attack against Baltimore galleys. Hard not to imagine the Ravens in the playoffs, as almost always in recent years. Always quick to highlight that name, the American press spoke of "Dream Team" before the actual Pennsylvanian. Already competitive last year, the Eagles have, indeed, hit hard during free agency. They recovered the cornerback Nnamdi Asomugah, denser yet already strong secondary and defensive line, led by Trent Cole, is also a high level. The attack is explosive on paper and has also strengthened. There is talent, no doubt. But there are flaws in the second offensive line or defensive curtain (the linebackers are young). Michael Vick has a lot of the Eagles season in his hands. If it remains at the level that was his last year, Philly can be very painful. So Dream team? Time will tell.

Atlanta is a formation on the rise, relatively young in key positions, like quarterback. This team is now that of Matt Ryan. He seems to have digested the defeat at home against Green Bay in the playoffs. And he will enjoy this year. Roddy White is one of the best receivers in the league, Tony Gonzalez still has good hands and the rookie receiver Julio Jones can give an extra dimension to the attack of the Falcons. The whole is perhaps less flashy than elsewhere, as in Philadelphia, but it is extremely solid. Focément supertars but not of very good players at almost all positions. No big flaw here. The Falcons have everything to go far in the playoffs. A bit like Baltimore, the limit depends on the ability of their young quarterback to win leadership again.
